Laser scanning at -25C in Svalbard

We have completed a variety of large scale laser scans of both civil and military aircraft for purposes as diverse as interior planning for luxury private jets and threat analysis for large transport aircraft. Our large scale scanner provides a fast and efficient platform for recording details down to the 20mm size. Areas requiring greater detail can be scanned using hand held scanning technology, using the large scale scans as a scaffold to align the detailed areas. An example of this is the scanning of an entire articulated truck for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. The Tractor unit and trailer were scanned using our large scale FARO system and modelled in 3D CAD. The aero surfaces on the front and side of the cab were scanned using high resolution hand held technology and surface modelled to provide accurate and very detailed models of the entire unit for CFD analysis. Benefits for using our technology for scanning aircraft and vehicles:

  • Fast and accurate – minimises aircraft downtime
  • Scanning can be completed outside if required (weather allowing!)
  • Integration of higher resolution scans or photogrammetry data if required
  • Supply of aligned pointcloud data in a variety of formats
  • 3D CAD modelling from pointcloud data
  • Provision of 2D SVG vector linework for documentation technical illustration from 3D models.
